A Traditional Kitchen for Modern Family Life
The brief for The Wilshaw Project was to create a traditional, hardworking kitchen, utility and living space that could effortlessly support the rhythm of everyday family life. With a desire for something distinctive and a spacious layout full of potential, the design focused on creating a kitchen that felt timeless while offering exceptional practicality.
Using our in-house design expertise alongside the homeowners’ own ideas and bespoke colour preferences, we created a truly individual kitchen where every detail was carefully considered. From tall wall storage designed to maximise the impressive ceiling height, to thoughtfully integrated features such as spice racks, chopping boards and service trays, every element was designed to improve organisation and ease of use.
The Design Process
The Signature Shaker cabinetry provides the perfect foundation for this characterful kitchen, combining traditional proportions with a refined, handcrafted finish. The deep Black Olive colour creates a rich and sophisticated atmosphere, while antique brass hardware introduces warmth and a timeless finishing touch.
A key focus of the design was creating storage solutions that felt as beautiful as they were practical. Bespoke cabinetry was carefully planned throughout the space, ensuring everything had a dedicated place while maintaining the clean, elegant appearance of the kitchen.
The standout features are the beautifully designed larders and pantries, each offering something unique. One incorporates a concealed coffee station, creating a dedicated morning ritual space, while the other features a breakfast bar designed for relaxed family moments and everyday convenience.
Thoughtful Features
Beyond the kitchen itself, the design extends into a dedicated utility and laundry room, allowing everyday tasks to remain discreetly hidden while maximising the available space. This separate area was carefully designed to complement the kitchen, maintaining the same level of craftsmanship, quality and attention to detail throughout.
Every practical requirement was considered without compromising the overall aesthetic. The result is a home that feels organised, effortless and beautifully connected.
Another defining feature of the project is the inclusion of two bespoke Visoglide doors, which open onto the surrounding gardens and flood the kitchen with natural light. These expansive openings create a seamless connection between the interior and exterior, allowing the kitchen to feel bright, open and full of life.
