At Corby Croft Interiors, we believe a kitchen should be more than just beautiful. While aesthetics are important, true luxury comes from a space that works effortlessly for the people using it every day.
In some rooms, form over function can work. The kitchen, however, is not one of them.

Without even realising it, we spend a huge portion of our day in the kitchen. When a space is poorly planned, cupboards in the wrong place, appliances badly positioned, or walkways too tight, simple daily tasks take longer and become frustrating. Over time, this lack of functionality can turn what should be an enjoyable space into a source of stress.
For many people, cooking and eating are a form of therapy. That’s why we design kitchens to support smooth, intuitive movement, keeping effort to a minimum and enjoyment to a maximum.
The Foundations of Functional Kitchen Design
When designing a kitchen, there are several key principles we always follow:
Space to Move Comfortably
We recommend a minimum of one metre between islands and surrounding cabinetry or walls. This allows for easy movement, prevents the space from feeling cramped, and ensures cupboard and appliance doors can open fully without clashing or causing damage.
Smart Sink Layouts
A well-planned sink area makes all the difference. We typically position a pull-out bin to the left of the sink and the dishwasher to the right. This simple layout makes clearing up after cooking or eating far quicker and far less annoying, something you’ll appreciate every single day.

Keeping the Cooker Central
The cooker should sit within the main working area of the kitchen, not tucked away on the other side of the room. This reduces unnecessary back-and-forth between cupboards, worktops, and appliances, making cooking feel more efficient and enjoyable.

Thoughtful Features That Make Life Easier
Beyond the basics, we love incorporating features that elevate everyday use.
Pot Taps
Originally an American design, pot taps are becoming increasingly popular in UK kitchens, and for good reason. Installed above the cooker, they eliminate the need to carry heavy pots of water across the kitchen, reducing strain, spills, and effort over time. An example is this Perrin & Rowe antique brass pot tap that creates a statement in this space whilst also being very helpful in the kitchen.

Bespoke Heights
One of our favourite details is truly bespoke storage. From larders to cupboards, we can tailor heights down to the level of something as specific as a bread bin, all based on the customer’s height. This ensures everything is easily accessible, reducing strain and making the kitchen work perfectly for the person using it.

Beauty That Works Hard
At Corby Croft Interiors, our goal is simple: to make your life easier while creating a kitchen that’s stunning, personal, and built to last. When thoughtful design meets beautiful craftsmanship, the result is a space you love looking at and love using.
A kitchen should work hard for you, not the other way around.
